Clients' Rights and Expectations

You have the right to confidentiality. Any personal information you tell an AWC worker is confidential and will not be told to anyone else. There is an exception to this rule if the worker has serious concerns about your safety or the safety of others. The worker will discuss this with you before she tells someone else.

You have the right to privacy. AWC has a privacy policy that conforms with the law. Any personal information you tell us is only allowed to be used for the purposes for which you give it to us. We will not give your personal information to anyone else.

You have the right to respect. AWC workers are here to help you get the things that you need. We are committed to non-judgmental and empathic practices and we do not discriminate on the basis of ethnicity, age, sexual orientation, income, ability, or relationship status.

You have the right to disclosure. This means that you can ask anyone associated with AWC about their qualifications, experience, and the accountability processes they have. We will give you this information so you can decide whether to use our services.

You have the right to a culturally appropriate service or worker. If we do not have one, we can refer you to services that do.

Making a Complaint

Users of Auckland Women's Centre are entitled to expect all AWC workers (including counsellors and course tutors) to behave in a professional manner, provide accurate information and follow Centre policies and procedures. AWC is committed to ensuring that all complaints are dealt with promptly, fairly, and in good faith.

We are committed to resolving issues raised by complaint so that the complainant is satisfied with the outcome and AWC practices are improved.

If you have a complaint about an AWC worker, counsellor, tutor or service provider, you may:
  • Speak directly to the person concerned and outline your complaint.
  • If you are unsatisfied with the outcome of this conversation you are encouraged to raise the matter personally or in writing with the Centre Coordinator. You are welcome to bring a whanau member or support person with you when making the complaint in person.
  • If you feel the matter is still unresolved, the Centre will engage an appropriate mediator to facilitate a meeting between yourself, the Centre worker concerned and a member of the Management Collective to resolve the issue. Decisions will be made at this forum as to future action.

  • Auckland Women's Centre is a community-based feminist organisation committed to promoting empowerment and well-being for all women.

We offer our services and resources to the women's community. We are committed to providing services that are ethical, accessible, and of high quality.

The Auckland Women's Centre is a women-only space.

    AWC Commitments

Auckland Women's Centre is committed to ensuring that all women who use the Centre's services or activities receive quality, ethical and professional service from Centre workers.

That means it is not OK for any AWC worker, counsellor, tutor or service provider to keep you waiting without explanation, ask you favours or ask to borrow money, ask you out socially or show any romantic behaviour towards you, or discuss their personal problems with you. If anything like this happens let us know as soon as possible.
