THEATRE PLAY - DOUBLE PORTRAIT

Double Portrait is a fictional story  woven together with a convincing and moving portrait of the very private Frances Hodgkins - regarded as the most significant NZ expatriate modernist painter of the 20th Century. PREVENTING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN: THE POLITICAL ECONOMY OF WOMEN'S HUMAN RIGHTS

 

The global elimination of violence against women is one of the key struggles and wishes of our age.  This workshop explores the broader international political and economic context of violence and insecurity experienced by women and how political and economic empowerment can serve as a deterrent to violence.

Presenter   Dr. Jacqui True (PhD York, Canada) is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of Auckland and author of five books and numerous articles on international political economy, gender mainstreaming, and feminist research methodologies. Her current book project is The Political Economy of Violence Against Women (Oxford University Press, forthcoming). She has served as a consultant to the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation, the United Nations, the NZ Human Rights and Families Commissions. Her report for the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence against women, its causes and consequences, on the political economy of women's human rights was presented to the UN Human Rights Council in June 2009.  This workshop is based on that report.

Now you can join a supportive group and enjoy weekly tramping throughout Auckland.
 
Women’s Outdoor Pursuits (W.O.Ps) welcomes women of all ages and fitness levels. W.O.Ps helps its members learn the basics of how to make the most of their outdoor experience safely and with confidence.
 
Members enjoy tramps on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays with experienced and qualified leaders.  There are opportunities to enjoy extra activities such as abseiling, kayaking and caving.
