Information Sharing
Notice boards, displays and written resources promoting lesbian activities, events and services. Information on community groups, lesbian support services and networks throughout Auckland. The Tamaki Makaurau Lesbian Newsletter, Express and other lesbian publications are available. Lists of lawyers, doctors, counsellors who are lesbian identified.
Personal Counselling
Counselling sessions are confidential, individual and conform to ethical guidelines. Copies of our Ethics and Complaints Guidelines brochure is available at AWC. Counselling can assist with coming out, identity issues, self-esteem, relationships and intimacy, family difficulties, conflict resolution or abuse and violence.
Joan Prairie is our lesbian counsellor, offering appointments to lesbian clients.
Counselling sessions are by appointment. Fees are negotiated on a sliding scale of $30-$80 taking account of your income.
The Women’s Library
Books by, for and about women. The Women’s Library has a strong collection of material by, for and about lesbians.
Fiction includes:
- Lesbian romances and erotic novels
- Short Stories
- Crime Fiction and science fiction
- Lesbian themed novels
Non-fiction includes:
- Autobiographies, lesbian lives and herstory
- Coming out stories
- Lesbian families and parenting books
- Lesbian feminism and queer theory
- Relationship and sexuality books
The library also has lesbian drama and documentary videos, lesbian magazines and resources on lesbian issues.
The library has a self issue system and membership is by annual subscription, $5 for beneficiaries and between $10 and $20 for non-beneficiaries.

Mon-Fri, 9am-4pm
Wednesdays 9am-7.30pm
Saturdays 11am-1.30pm
We would like to thank the Women’s Bookshop, GABA and ALBA for assisting with lesbian material for the library.
Support Groups
All our support groups and community education programmes are lesbian-friendly: Women and Anger - our stopping violence programme, The Art of Joyfulness, Building a new Life After Separation, self defence, creative writing, yoga . . .

LESBIAN DVD EVENING
Come and join Leonie and Ellie at the Auckland Women’s Centre for an evening of DVDs.
Starting at 7 pm we’ll provide a relaxed atmosphere, a place to chill, unwind and socialize, hopefully the only drama we’ll see will be on screen! There’s no charge, just roll on up, we’d love to see you. Bring your dinner if you would like to.
When: Last Wednesday of every month, 7pm onwards
