Teen Parent Centre Research Project
Auckland Women’s Centre, in collaboration with MasseyUniversity’s Centre for Social and Health outcomes Research, are looking to expand and develop the current teen parent service into a centre that runs independently in the community and meets the diverse needs of Auckland’s teen parents. To do this in the best possible way we are asking teen parents to participate in a research process called Photovoice in which they will take photographs to illustrate their vision and ideas for the new teen parent centre. We will then put on an exhibition of these photographs for the family and friends of the young parents and between us we’ll draw up a plan for the new centre using their ideas.
We also have a community steering group, made up of representatives from various health, education, social, youth and government organisations, which is here to help guide and shape the whole research process.
So whether you’re a teen parent or a family member of a teen parent and keen to get involved with the research, or if you are personally or professionally interested in knowing more about the project in any way please contact me using the following details;
New to the Women's Centre is our Lesbian Social Night on the last Wednesday of every month. Join us for an evening of watching DVDs and making new friends. Click here for more details.
We are currently looking for donations of 2nd hand digital cameras in good working order to make our Photovoice project even better!! So if you have a spare, functional digital camera that you no longer need you can either bring it or post it to the women’s centre or contact Heather to arrange a pick up. Thank you, it really is appreciated!
Currently we have had 5 generous donations; we need a total of 15 so we’re a third of the way there!
